Random diabetes - Thursday Thirteen #19

Thursday Thirteen

I haven’t had a chance to do a Thursday Thirteen in a while.. so here’s thirteen thoughts about my diabetes that randomly pop into my head from time to time.

  1. Living with diabetes sucks. Maybe that’s not so random.. but.. it’s true and I think that at least once a month.
  2. Metformin is a strange name for a drug. Most drugs have strange names but whenever I say this one I feel like I’m saying the name of a football player.
  3. I’m sometimes embarrassed to admit or tell people I have diabetes.
  4. Having diabetes scares is scary.
  5. Diabetes could shorten my life.
  6. Will the day come when getting health insurance won’t be easy?
  7. Will I need some sort of medicare supplement in the future?
  8. Not if. When.” These words haunt me sometimes.
  9. They’ll never cure diabetes. Pharmaceutical companies make too much money off it.
  10. I wonder if I would be better off on insulin.
  11. If I hadn’t of eaten all those Suzie-Q’s when I was a kid, would I still have diabetes?
  12. I wonder if Diabetes ran on my biological father’s side of the family. (I never knew him and he was adopted.)
  13. Mom had cancer. Sister had cancer. Brother has arthritis. I have diabetes. But we all have great teeth. Go figure.

  1. My grandad had diabetes. I don’t really remember much about it, as I was only a teenager when he died.

I’m sorry that you’re struggling with it.

I have two TTs this week:

    Raven’s Roads: 13 countries I have visited:

Markeroni: a day trip looking for historical markers in Old Sacramento.

  2. Thanks for the list Tracie. From 1 diabetic to another I completely understand and have a lot of the same concerns! Happy TT!

  3. I take Metformin as well and it is a very odd name. Although I don’t have diabetes I have PCOS. It’s an interesting thing, how they seem to come up with names for these medicines.

  4. I’m a bit more hopeful: I think they’ll eventually find a cure, though I don’t think it will be within my lifetime. (I’m 54.)

Living with it, though, indeed sucks.
