Qwest… again

I had to call Qwest again today. Seems a member of our household made four mystery long distance phone calls, one that was 20 minutes long. We have free long distance on our cell phones so there’s no need to make long distance calls from our land line. The number is listed on the phone bill but that’s it. No name. When I called I got some oaf who sounded like he took lots of bodybuilding supplements. He couldn’t tell me the name associated with the phone number because it was unlisted. I could call it but what if it’s someone we DO know and don’t want to talk to? I guess it will forever remain a mystery but it bugs me when we get charges on our phone bill we can’t account for. I also found out that when we moved they changed our long distance plan. They didn’t tell me it was the “10 Cents to Mexico” plan. I only noticed that today after living here 7 months. Too bad I don’t know anyone in Mexico.

  1. We’ve given up on traditional phone lines and switched to Vonage a while ago. We pay something like $15 a month for 500 minutes for calls to anywhere in the US. Its great since, like you we have unlimited national calling on our cell phones, we only have the home phone for absolute emergencies.

If you have cable internet, I’d seriously consider checking in to vonage.

  2. Hi,

Thanks for commenting. We thought about switching to Vonage but we’ve heard it works poorly with Comcast. Comcast has their own digital voice though.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
