Mini Home Improvements = Mood Lifter
Despite my early morning pity party yesterday, we had a great day getting stuff done around the house.
Every window in this house came with aluminum mini blinds (except our bedroom, it has wooden blinds). I assume they are either cheap or just very old because several have issues so we plan to replace them one by one. We have two bay windows and each section has its own mini blind. In the dining bay window one of the blinds literally disintegrated in my hands last week as I tried to close them. So that was a good place to start.
Back when I worked in the Window Coverings Department at Sears eons ago, we sold two types of blinds: standard size and special order. If someone had a window that wasn’t considered standard, they had to pay out the nose to special order them. So as we headed to Lowe’s I was concerned this would be an issue. Imagine my surprise that while they didn’t have our size, they had a machine that could cut them down right there on the spot. Maybe it’s been this way at places at Lowe’s and Home Depot for a long time, but it was news to me. My only experience with mini blinds up until yesterday was selling them at Sears.
We browsed around Lowe’s some more, looking at cabinet hardware for Jack’s music room project, then picked up some door handles with lock and key so he can keep his little music room locked. (We can’t seem to convince the boys that all the cool stuff in there is NOT for them to mess with!) We got home and had everything installed perfectly in less than an hour, which allowed us to enjoy the rest of our day in relaxation.
I love getting little projects like this done. It really helped my mood. Instead of feeling like a diabetic failure at the end of the day, I ended up feeling accomplished. It may have been little accomplishments but aren’t some of the best things in life the ‘little things’?
