Lockdown at Summer School
Yesterday Jack was telling me that while his buddy at work was fixing something in the ER, there was a police officer there who had just been shot. That he heard through the buzz in the ER that there was a hostage situation and schools that were open for summer school were in lock down status. My youngest is in Summer School! Sure enough, when I picked Cody up from the transport area (they are transported by bus from the school up the road to the summer school location) he had a note for me from his teachers to explain that they went into lock down. (Lock down means they lock themselves inside the school and don’t come out or let anyone in till they get an all clear.)
I then looked up online to see the news of what was going on and all local stations and newspapers had a story. You can read about it here: Hostage crisis ends with surrender
It’s not often this kind of craziness happens in our little city here in “The ‘Couve”. It happens all the time across the river in Portland. I found it interesting (and somewhat scary) they had to call in the Portland SWAT team. Portland police are notorious for being trigger happy.
Fortunately the two injured should be OK and the kids who were at school during the lock down seem oblivious. At least mine does. It just meant he couldn’t go outside for recess and he was inconvenienced by that.
I feel bad for the families who had to be evacuated from their homes. I also feel really bad for the family members involved in this ordeal.
From what the articles say, the guy who they were after simply didn’t want to go back to prison because of a bad experience. Well? How about you stop doing illegal crap to land yourself there.. Dumbass.
