Jack’s Birthday Present

Yesterday was a great day with my wonderfully sweet, enthusiastic, attentive and boyish man. Yes, boyish. I set his birthday present on his desk while he wasn’t looking thinking he’d be tortured by the site of it while I was off in the shower. I never dreamed he’d rip it open by himself, with no one around. We’ve always made a big deal of opening presents together! But he couldn’t wait. He came into the bathroom while I was still in the shower to show it to me. I do think Cody would have waited.. and he’s six. So yes, boyish does describe Jack well. :) He figured it out from the shape of the wrapped present and it’s what he was really hoping for. I suppose I can see why he waited about 45 seconds after seeing the present on his desk to rip it open alone. Though Cody was miffed he didn’t wait and had no issue letting his dad know this.

See what’s at the top of his list of ideas in his comment to last week’s Thursday Thirteen? The “LOL” was because he didn’t think I’d get him a PSP. But that’s exactly what he got. Including a game and a 4 GB SD card. He had it out of the box and the batteries charging before I got out of the shower. I didn’t include the SD card inititally and let him know we could go together to pick that up. I wasn’t sure which one to get. He’s the expert on those things. So we drove into Portland to pick that up.

We had a really nice day, just the two of us most of the day, then went out to dinner to celebrate with all the kids. He chose Applebees. (This would not have been my choice given the current breastfeeding in public issue they’ve caused for themselves but that is a rant for another day — it was Jack’s birthday so his choice.) We rented a movie afterwards and all watched it together. Even one of our kitties joined us for that. It was a good day.
