Insulin: not if, when…

That’s what my doctor said to me a couple years ago when we were discussing treatment for my diabetes. I mentioned insulin and he told me it would not be a matter of IF I go on insulin, it would be a matter of when. That really bugged me and I never quite understood what he meant.

Today I read this blog post on Jo’s Cafe where she linked to an article, Insulin: Who Needs It and Who Doesnt? and it helped me understand it a bit better.

Right now I’m on oral medication. My goal has always been to get off this medication by losing weight and controlling the diabetes with my diet. The medication has helped, and it won’t be like going through drug rehabilitation to get off of it. I just don’t like that I have to take something twice a day every day… that could eventually have negative effects on me. So going off all medication is still my goal and I really hope I can obtain it.

  1. You are lucky to have the type of diabetes where that can be an option.

  2. I agree, Lorelei. I just hope it STAYS an option!

  3. I too have been diagnosed with Type 2. Everyday is a struggle to stay on the right path. Right diet, more excercise. Good Luck. My goal is to beat this too.

  4. Linda, I know that struggle very well. Best of luck to you!
