I Can Finally Shut Up About Wordpress Themes

Yes, that’s right. I’m going to shut the heck up! But… that’s because I finally found a theme I could work with and upload the little Halloween Theme I created all by myself. Well, I didn’t DRAW the images or anything. I’m not THAT talented. :) But I did manipulate the heck out of some images I’ve had forever. If you’re reading this via a reader, come check out my new Halloween Wordpress Theme!

I swore I’d never found something I could work with. But I finally did. This theme is based off of the Downtown Java theme created by Brian Gardner. He doesn’t know it but he’s my new hero. He even went Pink on his blog for Breast Cancer Awareness! How cool is that? (I should buy him a set of cufflinks or something).

It was simple to edit this theme to customize it to my own needs. The only thing that was missing was an archive template page. I managed to fix that by creating one myself. I did it by trial and error, and copying the code from the page template, then moving stuff around and breaking lots of stuff. (Don’t you love how techinical I am?) But it works and I can customize this theme in the future fairly simply.

Thank you Brian Gardner for creating a decent 3 column theme!

  1. Good job on the new theme. I like it! I am such a theme-junkie. So many themes…so little time. I’m hooked on a particular layout by Beccary has done, and have several of my blogs sporting her layout. But will have to tuck this one away for further reference.

Oh, by the way, I’m “Prairierose” on the forum boards. And a huge PU2B fan as well. I didn’t have 4 kids and 3 stepkids, but did have 2 kids, 2 stepkids, and then (what WERE we thinking????), we had one of our own. At one point in time, we have 4 teenagers … and a 2 year old.

I don’t have diabetis, but my husband has on the oneset of it; and I was caregiver for my aunt before she died and numbers were all over the board. I have a sister-in-law the same way. Last week she was in the hospital because it dropped down to 27; and today its up over 700.

And, I deal with weight issues as well. If you don’t mind, I would like to link you at a couple of my blogs. I can relate to alot of the things you deal with, on a day to day basis!

    Have a good weekend.

  2. Hi Carolyn,

That’s my mom’s name! :) You’re welcome to link to my site. I’ll do the same for you. :)

Thanks for the comments as well. Seems we have a few things in common. For our family, I had 1 when we met, and he had 3, then we had 3 more together. It’s a crazy life sometimes but lots of fun most of the time. :)

    Thanks again for stopping by!

  3. Nice customization. I, too, am using a theme from Brian (2 column Silhouette). I must have searched every possible combination of of “best wordpress themes” on google, and there are none I liked.

I gave up and then the next day I decided to try one more time and by some luck I came across Brian’s website and found the 2 column Silhouette theme. Plus, he has the three column one as well, which is great if I ever need to expand.

I haven’t done as much customization to it yet. I’ve done some little changes like the font face, line spacing, and what not. Thanks to Brian for making the theme extremely easy to customize. I was going to build my own, but it didn’t seem easy to create a theme. I can create pages, but when it comes to converting it to a theme, it seemed a little complicated.

I also noticed you skipped over Pink October! Incase you didn’t see, I created some “Pink for October” bands that you can put on your website that go on the upper right or left corner (you can check my blog to see what it looks like, I have it in the upper right corner). http://blog.rr.cx/49/im-going-pink-for-october-you-should-too.htm

Nice customization of the theme!! :)
