Do Not Drink Alcoholic Beverages

It’s been a while. Sorry. Work has been insanely busy and I’ve worked at least 9000 hours of overtime, so that doesn’t leave much time for posting.

I hope everyone had a happy Independence Day.

Which brings me to the topic of this post. Alcohol and Metformin. My pill bottles say “DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES”. Well, normally this isn’t a problem. I’m not a drinker, however, I do enjoy the occasional beer, or Mike’s Hard Lemonaid. (Mike’s Cranberry is good too.) But it freaks me out to drink them.. so I end up sipping half of one then dumping it down the sink.

Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking metformin. Together, alcohol and metformin may increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia.

The above is what I can find about drinking alcohol while taking metformin. What’s excessive? 1? 2? 5 drinks? J and I have been talking about going out dancing and having a few drinks. It’s been a billion years since we’ve done that and it sounds really appealing. But I read that ‘excessive exercise’ can also cause lactic acidosis. Blargh. So I’m assuming I should do neither at the same time?

It’s times like these that I get so frustrated with all of this. The reminders that I have to be careful and watch what I do all the time.

On a positive note, I’ve discovered the joy of pedicures. Hey. If I have to baby my feet, then damnit, I’m babying them in style. ;)
