Bullet Sunday #8 Football Anyone?

  • As I started to prepare for today’s post, I realized today’s Bullet Sunday is the exact opposite of last Sunday’s Lazy Days post. There was definitely nothing lazy about our weekend this time around. In fact as we crawled into bed last night sore and tired I kept thinking it was Sunday night. It seems we did enough to fill two days in a 24 hour period. At least today is somewhat lazy. Such is the story of our life. :)

Kayla’s Cheer Box

  • Friday night was Kayla’s last home football game of the year. Since Kayla is a senior, it also means it’s her last high school home football game. Coincidentally her team was playing Kevin’s school team. We ended up rooting for Kayla’s team since this win would have meant they went to the playoffs. Unfortunately her team lost. This also meant it was the last time she would get to cheer on top of her cheer box. It will now be painted over and passed on to next year’s senior varsity cheerleader. Kayla’s name will be painted on the side under the seniors before her though.

Kayla’s Roses

  • Before the game there was a small ceremony honoring all the seniors. Jack and Kayla’s mom escorted Kayla when her name was called. She was given some beautiful roses. It was a proud moment for all of us. Kayla has come a long way and has done so well through her teens. Can you believe she’s going to be 18 in a week?!
  • Saturday at way-too-early in the morning Melissa had a game to cheer for. Melissa cheers for a young team, possibly the youngest age group for the county teams. So the football players are these tiny little kids and they are totally adorable in their full mini football uniforms. But their parents drive me insane. It’s one thing to cheer on your kids and your team, but there’s a few that act like this is the end-all be-all of football and go way overboard on the yelling. One guy sounds like he’s trying out for a screamo-band and you can’t even tell what the heck he’s belting out. I so wanted to tell him to SHUT THE HECK UP!
  • After her game we were all starving so we did something we have not done in a very very long time and took the kids out to breakfast. We decided to go to our favorite greasy spoon local restaurant, Fatty Patty’s. The basis of this restaurant is large portions… just pig out and of course it was decorated with every pig picture and figurine imaginable. I used to love going here (before it was a Diabetic nightmare for me) because we could take home the left overs and get two or three meals out of it. Unfortunately Fatty Patty’s was gone and replaced by Fat Dave’s II. That was a bit of a shock and disappointment. The food wasn’t near as good, the portions were normal and the prices were a bit higher. We had a lot of fun anyway and had our waitress laughing at/with us and our silly games we played while waiting for our food. We were getting a little rowdy so we played the silent game where you see who could go the longest without talking. Cody lost first. Imagine that? Jackson and Kevin ended up having a showdown and stayed quiet till we got home where it was declared they tied for the win.
  • Jack then took Kayla out for some driving lessons. She’s never driven a manual before. She did pretty good according to Jack. I have to say it feels really weird to be teaching our kids to drive. I swear they were just babies last month! Technically Kevin is now old enough to get his permit and drive with adults as well. I have a hard time wrapping my brain around this.
  • After that it was back to another Football game, this time little Jack’s. That was an exciting game. They went into overtime with a tie score. In the end his team lost, though… which was really hard on his team. They didn’t have such a great season, but their team was made up of most of the newcomers. I hope they still had fun and learned a lot. This game ended their season.
  • Having three kids participating in football (two cheerleaders and a football player) can get pretty spendy. We don’t get in free even though our kids are participants. (Which is why taking all the kids out for meals is a rare treat nowadays). Then again we do have some pretty nice stadiums in our county so I don’t mind supporting this. Having a part time job now will definitely help in that area.
  • Speaking of my new job, I’m sort of nervous. I am supposed to be receiving paperwork to fill out and send in to be able to start on Monday. I’ve emailed twice and have not received the paperwork. Only mention that it will be sent soon. I’m not sure how pushy I should be about it? Monday is… tomorrow! I’m so excited to start working and once again contribute to our family finances. It won’t be near as much as I made at my last job so I doubt we will be making the Las Vegas hotel reservations we were planning on for my birthday next year, but every little bit helps.
  • As if my kids growing up and starting to do adult things weren’t enough, my body has let me know that sitting on freezing cold bleachers or cement all weekend is not ok. My hips especially are protesting. The only thing we have planned for today is carving pumpkins and I think I hear a hot bath calling my name.

  1. I’ve got a 16 yr old who has no desire whatsoever to start driving. If I don’t force him to sign up for classes I’ll be driving him around when he’s 30.

  2. 4 more days and my little princess turns 18… my god where’d it all go?

She did great driving though! (I do believe *I* glazed our clutch pads while showing her how to stop/start on hills though! Whew the smell!)
