A week to clean their room

It’s taken my boys a week to clean their room. It wasn’t messy until they had a friend over. It looks as though they took all their Legos and all their Lincoln Logs and threw them all over the room. They took Cody’s tool bench apart and the pieces for it are everywhere.

This seems to happen a lot when they have friends over. Is it my boys causing the mess? Or the other kids deciding it’d be fun to trash a room that wasn’t their’s? Or a bit of both? I don’t remember going to my friends’ house as a child and trashing their rooms. Maybe we did and I have no concept. Maybe it’s a boy thing. What is really frustrating me is that they just won’t freaking clean it up. They go up there and make more messes or they sit and argue with each other about who should clean up what. Over and over. This has been ALL they have done all week long every night after their homework, dinner, etc. I know they are old enough to clean it. It isn’t like I’m asking them to do something beyond their capabilities. They know how to pick up Legos and put them in their Lego containers. Even with grounding them from the TV, computers, etc. they can’t seem to get the darn room cleaned up. Jack went up there last night and this morning to stand over them as they cleaned. As soon as he left both times they quit even trying.

Right now they are taking turns coming downstairs to tattle on each other about who’s not cleaning. ARRRRRG!!!! Just clean your damn room! *breathes*

  1. I used to have this happen with my girls to the point that certain friends just weren’t allowed over anymore unless they could stay outside to play. It was sad to have to tell parents no, but ya know, I value my home. I don’t know what it is with kids and messes and tearing things up. My momma woulda “whooped me into the middle of next year” if I had acted like that! LOL
